Sharp Exchange Review: How to Open a Betting Exchange Account via BetInAsia or MadMarket

A back and lay exchange that you reach through a broker, with two brokers offering it.

Sharp Exchange is a back and lay betting exchange, and you reach it through a broker. BetInAsia and MadMarket both offer it. You bet against other users, you can set your own odds, and commission applies to winning bets only. The minimum stake is €10 and cash out is built in.

MadMarket publishes 3% on winning bets and 0% on losing bets, while BetInAsia describes its Sharp Exchange commission as low and also charges it on winning bets only. To start, register with the broker, deposit, create the Sharp Exchange product account and transfer funds from the broker wallet. The steps for each broker are below.

The two brokers for Sharp Exchange

What Sharp Exchange is

Who takes the other side of your bet? Another user. Backers bet that an outcome will happen, layers bet that it will not, and a bet is matched when the two agree a price. MadMarket's help centre adds that there is no bookmaker margin in between, and calls the exchange its flagship exchange product, Sharp X.

Backers on one side, layers on the other: a bet is matched where the prices meet.

Our favourite feature here is own-odds betting (a price you name yourself, left in the market until another user accepts it). A soft bookmaker hands you its price; an exchange lets you offer your own.

You reach Sharp Exchange through a broker; BetInAsia and MadMarket both offer it. BetInAsia writes: "You will need to use a broker like BetInAsia to access Sharp, as you can't access it directly." MadMarket lists it as one of three products behind a single login, with Edge and Probet42. New to brokers? Start with bet brokers explained.

Sharp Exchange is not SharpBet

In our register SharpBet is a bookmaker, reached through BLACK at BetInAsia and through Edge at MadMarket. Sharp Exchange is a betting exchange: the names are close, the products differ.

What you get

What to know

A €10 minimum stake, back-only horse racing and funds that move via the broker wallet.

How you reach it

Through a broker: BetInAsia and MadMarket both offer it.

Sharp Exchange commission

3% is the rate MadMarket publishes for Sharp Exchange: 3% on winning bets, 0% on losing bets, and no premium charges.

BetInAsia's help centre describes low commission rates on Sharp Exchange, applied to winning bets only. BetInAsia writes "low" and gives no rate, and elsewhere it describes the exchange as having "some of the lowest commission on the market".

A losing bet costs the stake and no commission; commission arrives only when a bet wins. We like that structure, because it asks nothing of you until a bet has paid.

Sports and markets on Sharp Exchange

Start with the list.

Four lists describe the sports on Sharp Exchange, on each broker's product page and in each help centre. All four include Football, Basketball, Tennis, Baseball, Cricket, Horse Racing, Rugby, Golf, Ice Hockey, Boxing, MMA, Darts, eSports, Handball, Greyhounds, Cycling, Motorsports, American Football, Netball and Athletics. Both help centres add Snooker, Volleyball, Australian Rules and Gaelic Games.

MadMarket names Asian Handicap, Over/Under and both teams to score, or BTTS, among its markets. Both brokers offer in-play betting, and BetInAsia puts an In-Play tab beside the sports menu on desktop and mobile.

Horse racing

Both help centres say horse racing on Sharp Exchange is back only. BetInAsia puts it plainly: "You can place bets only on the BACK side. There is no option to place LAY bets on Sharp Exchange." The markets named are match odds, totals and score.

Minimum stake

The minimum stake is €10 at BetInAsia and at MadMarket.

How to open a Sharp Exchange account via BetInAsia

Ready to open a Sharp Exchange account via BetInAsia? Four steps, all started from the BIA Portal.

  1. Register in the BIA Portal with your name, email, country of residence and account currency, then confirm the email.
  2. Make a first successful deposit. The minimum is €50 on every method.
  3. In the Products section press Create Account for Sharp Exchange. Choose a username of at least 5 characters, without "BetInAsia" or "BIA" in it, and a password of at least 8 characters with letters and numbers.
  4. Transfer funds from your BIA Wallet to the Sharp Exchange account.

The Portal home page offers test accounts without funds, and BetInAsia's Sharp Exchange page points to a Sharp Exchange Demo account.

BetInAsia welcome offer for Sharp Exchange

Customers new to BetInAsia can enter code 25BIA at registration for a 25% deposit bonus up to €125, valid on BLACK, Sharp Exchange and PS3838. Ask support for it by email after your first deposit; it applies to your first transfer to a betting account, up to a transfer of €500.

To withdraw, bet five times the total credited, deposit plus bonus, at minimum odds of 1.80. On Sharp Exchange and on BLACK's exchanges only Back bets count. These are the bonus's own rules, not a deposit rollover.

How to open a Sharp Exchange account via MadMarket

Sharp Exchange is also at MadMarket, where it sits beside Edge and Probet42 under one login. The steps below are MadMarket's own steps for opening a product account.

  1. Sign up with your email, a password, your country and your first and last name, then confirm the email.
  2. Make a deposit in your MadMarket Wallet. The minimum is €50, and a deposit is required before a product account can be created.
  3. Open Products in your profile, choose Sharp Exchange and press Create account, then enter a username and a password.
  4. Transfer funds from the wallet to the new product account. The team confirms the status by email.

Test accounts for the products are available on request from support.

Sharp Exchange features

  • Back and lay. In MadMarket's help centre, blue boxes are Back and pink boxes are Lay, each showing odds above and liquidity below. A back wins if the outcome happens, a lay wins if it does not, and the layer's liability is what the backer would win. On mobile, MadMarket's coupon page needs landscape mode to show lay prices.
  • Your own odds. Change the price in the bet slip and the bet stays an open offer until another user accepts it. MadMarket's My Bets page shows it as Unmatched, Partially Matched or Matched, and at both brokers, if nobody matches it before the market closes or goes in-play, your stake comes back.
  • Cash out. BetInAsia describes it as "a product that allows you to lock in a profit or loss before waiting for the event to finish". The value follows market prices in real time, and MadMarket's help centre adds that one click exits every bet in a market and that cash out can be unavailable when liquidity is low. Auto Cash Out (a profit target you set in advance) and Partial Cash Out are available at both brokers.
  • Trading View. A BetInAsia feature, alongside One Click Betting: the same sports, markets and prices as the standard view, shown as ladders, up to three at a time.
  • Two-factor authentication. Optional at both brokers and recommended. Enable it from My Profile, scan the QR code and enter the 6-digit code.
  • Access. BetInAsia's help centre says Sharp Exchange works in the browser on desktop and mobile.

Countries and account checks for Sharp Exchange

There is no separate country list for Sharp Exchange: each broker applies the terms of its own site, in clause 4.1.3 for both, and the two lists differ. VPN and proxy use is forbidden in both sets of terms. For BetInAsia, see BetInAsia restricted countries.

BetInAsia asks for full KYC, the know-your-customer check, once lifetime deposits pass €2,000 or when you request a withdrawal; until then you can register, deposit, open product accounts and transfer. MadMarket requires verification before you can withdraw. Open the KYC step early; it speeds up your first withdrawal.

The minimum deposit is €50 at both brokers and so is the minimum withdrawal. BetInAsia sets Bitcoin withdrawals at €200 and Ethereum withdrawals at €100.

Sharp Exchange among the routes to Betfair

In our register Sharp Exchange is the tool that opens Betfair at BetInAsia and at MadMarket (MadMarket adds Edge as a second route). It is also the tool that opens Orbit Exchange at both brokers.

Sharp Exchange verdict

Sharp Exchange earns its place in our register for three reasons: you set your own price, commission arrives only when a bet wins, and cash out is built in. We would open BetInAsia first if Trading View and One Click Betting appeal, and MadMarket if you want one login across Edge, Probet42 and Sharp Exchange. Both ask €10 as a minimum stake and €50 as a minimum deposit, so the choice comes down to tools. For the wider field, see the best bet brokers.

Where to start

Pick a broker, open the Sharp Exchange product account and place your first bet from €10.
