BetInAsia
The BIA Portal is the central broker account for your product accounts; Sharp Exchange runs on desktop and mobile.
Four brokers and five tools open Betfair markets; here is how the routes compare.
A Betfair broker is a betting broker, or betting agent, that opens Betfair markets for you through its own exchange platform. In our access register Betfair opens through five tools at four brokers: Sharp Exchange at BetInAsia; PIWI247 and OrbitX at AsianConnect; Sharp Exchange and Edge at MadMarket; and FairExchange at Sportmarket.
You register once with the broker, fund one wallet and open the product account. The stated commission is 3% on winning bets at MadMarket on Sharp Exchange and at Sportmarket on FairExchange, and each broker publishes its own minimum stake and its own list of restricted countries.
What does a broker actually change? The door, and the terms behind it. On Betfair customers bet with each other and, in the words of its terms, Betfair "acts as a facilitator and does not act as a counterparty" (bar a few cases the same clause lists).
A direct account is a contract with Betfair International Plc, TSE Malta LP or Betfair Pty Limited, depending on where you live. A broker route is an account on a platform the broker opens for you: Sharp Exchange, PIWI247, OrbitX, Edge and FairExchange.
BetInAsia's site says of Sharp Exchange: "You will need to use a broker like BetInAsia to access Sharp, as you can't access it directly." AsianConnect lists OrbitX as "Powered by Betfair".
New to brokers? Start with bet brokers explained, then come back.
Two things decide it: where you are, and what else you want in the same wallet.
Betfair's terms prohibit use of its services from a list of named countries and from "any other country with a comparable legal situation", judged by where you are located. Each broker publishes a list of its own, and the lists differ.
Which restricted-country lists name your country: BetInAsia, AsianConnect, MadMarket, Sportmarket
| Country | BetInAsia | AsianConnect | MadMarket | Sportmarket |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | Named | Not named | Named | Named |
| United States | Named | Named | Named | Named |
| France | Named | Not named | Named | Named |
Named means the country is on the broker's own list of restricted countries; Not named means it is not. Sources: BetInAsia: clause 4.1.3 of its terms; AsianConnect: the restricted-country article in its help centre; MadMarket: clause 4.1.3 of its terms; Sportmarket: clause 3.7 of its terms.
The result? One wallet, several exchanges. BetInAsia opens 15, AsianConnect 7, MadMarket 14 and Sportmarket 12 betting sites in the register, Betfair included. All four welcome winners, in their own words.
Six pairings of broker and tool open Betfair in our register. Four brokers, five tools, one row.
Betfair broker routes compared: tool, description and minimum stake
| Broker | Tool | How the broker describes it | Minimum stake |
|---|---|---|---|
| BetInAsia | Sharp Exchange | Sharp Exchange: back and lay exchange | €10 |
| AsianConnect | PIWI247 and OrbitX | OrbitX: exchange, powered by Betfair. PIWI247: sportsbook, casino and the PIWIXchange exchange, which is powered by Betfair | €4 on PIWIXchange |
| MadMarket | Sharp Exchange and Edge | Sharp Exchange: peer-to-peer back and lay. Edge: Mollybet-powered trading platform listing Betfair Exchange | €10 on Sharp Exchange, €1 on Edge |
| Sportmarket | FairExchange | Peer-to-peer exchange | €5 |

Sharp Exchange is the one tool two of the four brokers share. Both describe a back and lay exchange with in-play betting and cash out (partial and automatic cash out included). Our Sharp Exchange review has the rest.
FairExchange is Sportmarket's peer-to-peer exchange, and in our register it is the tool that reaches Betfair there. Access takes a verified account, funds in the Main Account and a request to support; two-factor authentication is mandatory and the minimum stake is €5.
AsianConnect lists OrbitX as a betting exchange to back and lay, marked "Powered by Betfair"; PIWI247 adds the PIWIXchange exchange, also described as powered by Betfair. Orbit has its own page: Orbit Exchange.
Betfair charges "a commission calculated by reference to your net winnings on a Market", so your stakes do not enter the sum. Its charges page says that for the vast majority of Exchange customers commission is the only charge paid to Betfair. The rate is not one figure: it follows the package you choose or a market base rate, less a discount that grows with your Betfair Points and is capped at 20% until your KYC (know-your-customer) check is complete. Two cases add charges, covered after the discount below.
Betfair commission by route: what each broker states
| Route | Broker | Stated commission |
|---|---|---|
| Direct account | Betfair | On net winnings in a market; rate set by package or market base rate, less a points-based discount |
| Sharp Exchange | BetInAsia | Low, on winning bets only |
| PIWI247 exchange | AsianConnect | On net winnings in an exchange market, at the rate set when the account is opened or notified to you |
| Sharp Exchange | MadMarket | Flat 3% on winning bets, 0% on losing bets |
| FairExchange | Sportmarket | 3% on winning bets, none on losing bets |

The PIWI247 line comes from PIWI247's own terms, not AsianConnect's. On Sharp Exchange and FairExchange the commission only touches winning bets, so it costs nothing until a bet wins, and we like that arrangement for anyone who trades often.
Where the commission is the market base rate less a discount, the discount comes from Betfair Points. You earn one point for every 10 pence of commission paid on a win or implied on a loss; betting earns points either way. Betfair recalculates the discount every Sunday at midnight GMT and then cuts your points balance by 15% (the weekly decay); a Betfair Holiday pauses that decay, though it earns no points. Table A applies to most regions, and Albania, Australia and New Zealand get no discount.
Betfair Points and the discount rate: selected steps of Table A
| Betfair Points | Discount rate |
|---|---|
| 1,000 to 2,499 | 2% |
| 7,000 to 8,999 | 10% |
| 17,000 to 18,999 | 20% |
| 49,000 to 54,999 | 40% |
| 80,000 to 87,999 | 50% |
| 150,000 and above | 60% |
Until your KYC check is complete the discount is capped at 20%, so the steps above the 17,000-point row stay out of reach.
Two exceptions carry rates of their own: a Transaction Charge for very heavy traffic and an Expert Fee that reaches fewer than 0.5% of customers, who are notified before it applies. Each day's Transaction Charge is reduced by the commission you generated.
Betfair Transaction Charges and Expert Fee: who pays and at what rate
| Charge | Who pays | Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction Charge | Customers with more than 5,000 qualifying transactions in an hour | £0.001 per placed bet and per failed transaction, £0.005 per duplicate failed transaction; market-making bets are free |
| Expert Fee | Customers with a gross profit above £25,000 over their last 52 active weeks, after more than 100 exchange markets | 20% for a 52-week gross profit of £25,000 to £100,000, 40% above £100,000 |
To open Betfair via BetInAsia, you need the BIA Portal first and a Sharp Exchange account second.
Verify early
Open the KYC step early; it speeds up your first withdrawal.
Which door? The registration form offers PIWI247, PS3838, AsianOdds88 and OrbitX, and our register lists Betfair under PIWI247 and OrbitX. To open Betfair via AsianConnect, three steps are enough.
Two doors to Betfair, then: Sharp Exchange and Edge. MadMarket says Edge customers "do not need to manage a separate Betfair Exchange login directly".
€100 is the figure to know: the minimum activation deposit for FairExchange. To open Betfair via Sportmarket, follow this order.
Automation is decided route by route.
Betfair's own terms list the API as a betting channel and describe bots as programs that place bets automatically within parameters their users set; those users act "entirely at their own risk". Through a broker, each platform sets its own line: FairExchange does not permit API software bots such as GeeksToy, and PIWI247's terms forbid bots and artificial intelligence. BetInAsia lists Pull and Push API access on BLACK (a separate product from the Sharp Exchange route).
In-play? Sharp Exchange lists it at both BetInAsia and MadMarket, and BetInAsia adds Trading View with up to three price ladders. A route changes access, cost and tools, and the outcome of a bet still depends on the bet alone.
Each broker has one front door, and the app answer is short: web first.
The BIA Portal is the central broker account for your product accounts; Sharp Exchange runs on desktop and mobile.
The AMS member portal handles deposits, withdrawals and KYC; OrbitX and PIWI247 are listed for web and mobile.
The MadMarket Portal holds your wallet and product accounts; Sharp Exchange offers two-factor authentication.
The Main Account on the website handles deposits and transfers; there is no native mobile app, and the Betting Platform is a responsive web app.
No.
Betfair's terms classify access from a prohibited territory, "including if you are using a VPN to disguise your location", as a Prohibited Activity, and BetInAsia and MadMarket forbid VPNs and proxies in their own terms. We do not write VPN tutorials.
The alternative is a broker with its own country list: compare them in the table above, or start from best bet brokers.
Three other exchanges sit in the register beside Betfair.
| Betting site | Sportmarket |
|||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Betdaq | BLACK | Not listed | Edge | Available |
| Matchbook | BLACK | Not listed | Edge | Available |
| Smarkets | BLACK | Not listed | Edge | Available |
BetInAsia reaches all three through BLACK and MadMarket through Edge. Sportmarket lists them without a named tool, and AsianConnect has no entry for them. For the whole field, see all betting exchanges via brokers; for prediction markets, Betfair vs Polymarket.
