What Orbit Exchange is

Orbit Exchange is the betting exchange at orbitxch.com. Its rules speak of backers and layers, of matched and unmatched bets and of a traded price.

Its terms name Eight Central Limited N.V. as the operator: a company incorporated under the laws of Curacao, registration number 142943, with its registered office at Korporaalweg 10, Curacao. Clause 1.1 adds "We are regulated by Curacao E-Gaming" and says the services run under a licence issued in 2017. Clause 1.2 puts the site under "the jurisdiction of Curacao", and clause 33.9 gives its courts exclusive jurisdiction.

On the broker side, AsianConnect presents OrbitX as "A betting exchange platform" where you can back and lay, in an interface accessible in multiple languages.

How the four brokers list Orbit Exchange

Our register has one row for Orbit Exchange and one tool per broker.

  • BetInAsia opens Orbit Exchange through Sharp Exchange.

Orbit Exchange commission and charges

The terms say it in a sentence: "For the vast majority of Orbit Exchange customers, the only charges paid to Us will be Commission on net winnings in an Exchange market" (clause 14.1).

Fine. That is the structure. The number is another matter. The terms do not state a rate, and clause 14.1 points to the rate set out when your account is opened or notified to you from time to time.

Clause 14.2 adds Premium Charges: "A small number of customers who, in the long-term, generate very little commission compared to the amount they win may incur Premium Charges." The customer concerned is told in advance, and the terms give no rate or threshold.

The other charges in writing:

  • Rounding. Gains, losses and commissions are rounded to two decimals at each settlement: in the rules' euro examples, 3.333 becomes 3.33 and 3.335 becomes 3.34.
  • Small withdrawals. A withdrawal below the minimum can be processed for a fee of 1% of the amount or €10, whichever is greater (clause 6.11).
  • Currency. A payment in a currency other than the account's is converted at the site's rate, and a fee "as specified from time to time on the Site" can apply. The terms give no amount (clauses 5.3 and 5.4).
  • Opening and balances. No setup charge, and balances earn no interest (clauses 5.4 and 6.18).

Deposits and withdrawals in the terms

Numbers now, all of them from the terms and none from us.

The minimum deposit is €500, or the equivalent in the account currency, and the same clause says it "may be increased by direct request to the customer service team, at Our absolute discretion" (clause 5.5). A bet needs cleared funds first (clause 6.2). Five days, for bank transfers and e-wallets: "it may take up to five (5) days for such deposit to reach Your Account" (clause 6.12). The account name has to match the name on the payment method (clause 5.16).

The minimum withdrawal is €1,000, or the equivalent in the account currency, and the maximum is €100,000 cumulative over 24 hours, with larger requests going to customer service at its absolute discretion (clause 6.10). Money goes back "to You and via the same method and in the same currency as deposits" (clause 6.9).

Whose numbers these are

These amounts come from Orbit Exchange's own terms; your broker's page covers what it asks for.

Account and betting terms

Six clauses, as written and without a reading from us.

  • Clause 10.3. Unless the terms state otherwise, "no Bet can be cancelled once confirmed by Us", and the operator reserves the right to refuse any bet.
  • Clauses 12.1(b) and 12.3. Bet limits are "the minimum and maximum amount of any Bet as set by Us", and the part of a bet above a limit is ignored and cancelled.
  • Clause 12.6. Identical bets from different players, and bets placed in collusion or as a syndicate, can be rejected or cancelled, and payment can be refused. "You must make Bets as an individual."
  • Clause 2.1. The service is "for Your personal entertainment", and "You will not use the Gaming Platform to conduct a commercial business or as a way of making a living".
  • Clause 5.19. An account with no bet for 365 consecutive days becomes an Inactive Account, and its balance is forfeited.
  • Clauses 5.20 to 5.22. The operator can suspend or close an account on 30 days' notice without giving a reason, on 5 days' notice for a breach of the terms, or immediately at its absolute discretion.

Exchange rules in short

The rules rank in three layers: the Market Information shown on each market wins over the rules by sport, and those win over the general rules.

Orbit Exchange publishes rules under 22 headings: American Football, Athletics, Australian Rules Football, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts, Cricket, Cycling, Darts, Financial markets, Golf, Greyhound racing, Horseracing, Ice Hockey, Motor sport, Rowing, Rugby Union and Rugby League, Snooker and Pool, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis and Winter sports. These are settlement rules, not a list of the markets that are open. Financial markets are one of the 22 and, incidentally, they settle on Bloomberg prices for indices, equities and currencies and on HBOS figures for house prices.

Rules are filed heading by heading, 22 headings in all.

Settlement and dead heats

Markets settle on the official result of the governing body, "regardless of any subsequent disqualification or amendment to the result", unless a communication error is corrected within 24 hours of the first settlement. In a dead heat the stake is reduced in proportion (stake times expected winners, divided by actual winners), and winnings are paid on the reduced stake.

Abandoned and postponed events

If neither the sport rules nor the Market Information say otherwise, an event not completed within three days after its scheduled completion date has all its bets voided, except on markets "unconditionally determined". A tournament not completed within those three days is settled on the governing body's official decision if it comes within 90 days of the scheduled end, and voided if not.

In-play bets and horse racing non-runners

Unmatched bets are cancelled when a market goes in-play unless you chose "At In-Play: Keep", and "customers are responsible for managing their in-play bets at all times".

On same-day horse racing markets each horse carries a reduction factor, a percentage set when the market opens from a forecast price. When a horse is a non-runner, bets matched on it are cancelled. In a win market a factor of 2.5% or more cuts the matched odds on the other horses by that factor and cancels their unmatched lay offers; below 2.5% no reduction applies. In a place market every factor applies, even under 2.5%, and unmatched lay offers are cancelled only from 4.0%.

Countries named by Orbit Exchange

One country is named. Clause 5.11 reads: "We do not accept Bets originating from any of the jurisdictions listed on the Site from time to time, including the United States of America." The terms do not reproduce the rest of that list.

Clauses 5.10 and 18.1 add a different test: you warrant that you are not a citizen of a jurisdiction that prohibits its citizens from online betting, "regardless of the citizen's location". The clauses name no country. Brokers apply their own country lists too: see BetInAsia restricted countries and Sportmarket restricted countries.

Orbit Exchange verdict

The terms of Orbit Exchange are specific where numbers matter: €500 in, €1,000 as the smallest withdrawal, €100,000 per 24 hours at most. The commission rate and the full country list are the two figures they do not print.

All four brokers carry the betting site in our register, so choose by what sits beside it: BLACK and PS3838 at BetInAsia; PS3838 and PIWI247 at AsianConnect; Edge and Probet42 at MadMarket; the Betting Platform at Sportmarket.
